Globalization in the 21st Century: How it affects Our Everyday Life

One day there will be no borders, no boundaries, no flags and no countries and the only passport will be the heart.

Carlos Santana, Carlos Augusto Alves Santana is a Grammy Award-winning Mexican Latin rock musician and guitarist.

This is our 21st century life where we believe that one day there will be no border but sooner we will hear USA president Trump’s direction:

“Donald J. Trump is calling for a complete and total shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.”

This is a statement from President of USA, the most powerful country in today’s world. So what is happening with today’s world where we observe contradictory values, ideas and statements?  What politics are working behind globalization? Throughout this paper we will try to show that what is Globalization in the 21st century:

Imagine there’s no country

It isn’t hard to do

Nothing to kill or die for

And no religion, too

Imagine all the people

Living life in peace… You…

You may say I’m a dreamer

But I’m not the only one

I hope someday you’ll join us

And the world will be as one.

John Lennon

Globalization is exactly talking like this. Globalization makes us believe that there is no border and they also make us imagine that we all the people are sharing the whole world. This is our 21st century life where we imagine that we live a world where we connected with each other through internet, social media, phone etc. From morning to night we live a globalized life.

Let me start with an episode from Sun Tzu’s ‘The Art of War’. This Chinese military genius talked about a particular snake in ‘The Art of War’. Shuaijan, a particular snake available in China who has a particular capability that if you hit in its head then it will attack you with its tail and if you attack in its tail than it will attack you with its head. And if you try to attack in the middle than it will attack you with both head or tail. So whenever I hear the word globalization I think about Shuaijan because globalization is like Shuaijan if you deny to accept globalization it will attack you in every way possible. If you accept it then you face many problem like inequality in the society and finally when you agreed to balance it then you have to accept its advantages and disadvantage also.

Globalization can be defined in many ways but mostly it’s used as an interactions, communication and flows of goods. So in our 21st century life where is globalization. Globalization is in everywhere where you wanted to go or where you don’t want to go. Morning to night we basically live in a world which can be defined as a global world. Our morning alarm clock to bed time when we turn our switch off all is an example of globalization. Because our alarm clock may be come from China or Malaysia and Switch which we used may be come from India or Germany.

This is an economic face of globalization. Globalization also has political face Via modern technology and global economy our world has greatly changed but in the other side our perceptions still not changed we cling to same old feelings ‘us ‘and ‘them’. Our product may be globalized but our mindsets are still localized.

Whenever we talking about globalization we often talking about rich thing like phone, internet and computer. I think globalization is for rich people because two third of the people in this world it’s did not affect whether this computer and technology.  Technology can be great opportunity if we use it properly. But unfortunately technology gives us power but it cannot tell us how to use this power. In globalization market, there have always loser and winner. So there some countries have to bear these loose and the fact is that most of the loose has to bear by poorer and developing countries and rest are just only going for benefit front there. So it’s difficult to catch up other countries for those poorer.

No generation has had the opportunity, as we now have but still there is a question can we are able to use this opportunity. We can’t speak day after day about globalization without at the same time having in mind that…we need multilateral solutions Via globalization our capital has accumulated 1 percent people hold 99% percent wealth of this globalized world but still there is hope in the history of humankind women maintain their own fate. Women enjoy freedom they have knowledge and this knowledge give them power which is new thing in the history human. Women can make decision of their own.

The whole of the global economy is based on supplying the cravings of two per cent of the world’s population.” – Bill Bryson, Best-selling Author.  This is a problem and one of the major disadvantages of globalization.

Another disadvantage and politics behind globalization is national security.   Countries believe that without national security there is no economic security. This is true but apart from this for ensuring national security countries takes several controversial steps like Border control, Migration control, intervention in people private property, intervention by the name of peace etc.

Henry Ford was right. A prosperous economy requires that workers be able to buy the products that they produce. But if we observe today’s global world then we saw that workers don’t afford what they produce basically its more true if we look upon third world developing countries.

So now we can divide globalizations in two separate ways: So There’s two globalizations… The elite globalization represents minority forces. The elite globalization is about making money… The people’s globalization, the democratic mass globalization is about life values.”

We often talk about Globalization as a globalization is global thing. But if we talk saw today’s world then we see that, Globalization has rendered the world increasingly interdependent, but international politics is still based on the sovereignty of states. We still maintain those old theories “us” and “them”. The global economy works for about twenty percent of the world, for about eighty percent it doesn’t. This is one of the major criticisms against globalization.

Is global economy is a Zero-Sum game? Can’t we share our prosperity with others?  Can’t we create wealth together! This is a alarming question which we can rise towards developed states. My opinion is that prosperity can be shared. We can create wealth together. The global economy is not a zero-sum game.”

In this age of globalization, instant real time media and television, everyone all over the world realizes that high energy usage equates with a high standard of living and wealth. Globalization has produced a new of level of interdependence among us. The economy and multinational supply chains do not abide by political boundaries. A computer ordered in Brazil is designed in California and assembled in several other countries. Economic integration was the first strong evidence of a new era. The standardization of world culture, with local popular or traditional forms driven out or dumped down to make way for American television, American music, food, clothes and films, has been seen by many as the very heart of globalization.

But there is some good thing in globalizations. For women I think globalization brings great opportunity. We live in an era of globalization and the era of the woman. Never in the history of the world have women been more in control of their destiny. Technology makes women life easier and better than before.

But still there is a question via globalization isn’t we really referring to the spreading economic and military might of the US?  Superpowers dominate us via their economic and military might can we feel that?

I think globalization is a great thing. And now a lot of people complain about globalization; a lot of people don’t like, you know, the globalization as a concept, an idea the results it bring. I think the globalization is a great idea and it creates a lot of jobs.

But base of the party, the middle-aged white working class, has suffered at least as much as any demographic group because of globalization, low-wage immigrant labor, and free trade. Trump sensed the rage that flared from this pain and made it the fuel of his campaign. The 1 to 2 billion poorest in the world, who don’t have food for the day, suffer from the worst disease: globalization deficiency. The way globalization is occurring could be much better, but the worst thing is not being part of it. For those people, we need to support good civil societies and governments.

I think Obama and the economists around him have a very sophisticated understanding of both globalization and the technology revolution and the impact they’re having on the world economy and they way they’re creating these winner-take-all spirals. I think that fashion has become such a big business and with globalization we are on new territory at this point. We are not just designing for a country we are designing for a world now. I am not someone who believes we should build a fence around our country but I do believe there ought to be some fairness with respect to the rules of this globalization. In this age of globalization, instant real time media and television, everyone all over the world realizes that high energy usage equates with a high standard of living and wealth.
